Bedroom design ideas
When considering your bedroom design, think about the theme you have carried through the rest of your abode, as well as the type of person you are. If your home is simple and minimalist and you can't stand clutter, keep your decorating to a minimum with simple bedroom decor like a monochrome bedspread, a clutter-free bedside table and perhaps an indoor plant.
Or, if your home is a bit more eclectic and packed with lots of textures and patterns, your bedroom could suit a bohemian look.
"Relaxed, boho bedrooms are trending right now and this look is easily achieved with lots of textures (think rugs, wall hangings, throws and cushions), mismatched patterns, fresh white linen and plants in interesting pots," says property stylist, Kylie Schlick.

Master bedroom decorating ideas
The master bedroom is the crème de la crème of a home, whether that home is a rental, investment property or forever home. Of course there are a lot of factors that help make a master bedroom stand out, including room size, natural light, furnishings and bedroom decoration.
A rug underneath the bed in a master bedroom will always soften the room and add a sense of warmth underfoot; just imagine those chilly winter mornings stepping out of bed onto a cool, hard floor (no thanks!). An upholstered bedhead is a contemporary bedroom design, while white bedroom decor (think a crisp white bedspread and white throw cushions) keeps the space simple.

5 tips on how to decorate a bedroom
Deciding how to decorate your bedroom can be tricky, especially when you're an indecisive type and there's so much lush bedroom decor out there. Kylie shares her essential tips to consider when it comes time to whip all your bedroom style ideas into shape:
- Use natural linens: "Natural materials are very prevalent at the moment. Try it out as a quilt cover and layer with chunky throws and cushions with patterns or a pop of colour.

- Create the right feel with lighting: "Let as much natural light into your bedroom as possible during the day, and invest in beautiful bedside table lamps that suit your theme (or a floor lamp if you are tight on space) to create a lovely warm ambience at night."

- Make your bed: "A clean and ordered space can make your room feel luxurious, calm and like a proper haven. Make sure your things have a home."
- Think about the interior decoration of your bedroom: "Consider decorative items such as artwork, cushions and throws, and choose colours or tones that you love. Cooler colours bring a sense of calm to a space and soothe, while warmer tones evoke a sense of energy, passion and vivaciousness."

- Artwork can be used to introduce colour into the space, create a bedhead or anchor furniture in your room. Be careful of the scale of it in your room. You don't want it to dwarf your furniture and impose on your space, and on the other hand, make it big enough to have an impact!

More bedroom decorating tips
- "When thinking of bedroom themes for teenage girls, consider your child's interests and hobbies – often this can be a great starting point for a fun theme," says Kylie.
- If you're opting for a Hamptons bedroom design theme, must includes are an upholstered bedhead, an ottoman placed at the foot of the bed, lots of layers, a throw and some cushions. Think tones such as neautrals, whites and, of course, the all-important duck egg blue.
- "Vintage bedroom decor, such as old trunks, make amazing bedsides and double as extra storage. If vintage is your thing, consider making cushions out of vintage fabrics that you love, and don't be afraid to mix timbers, metals and finishes of furniture to create an eclectic feel," says Kylie.
- Use complementary colours on your walls and throughout your decor to create a blissful bedroom space.
- If in doubt, keep it simple. Simple bed design ideas can be beautiful: "A beautiful bed frame can be a real feature in a room, but don't underestimate the simple ensemble base – be sure to use a valance, layer up your linen and use a striking piece of art above the bed as an impromptu bedhead," says Kylie. "This allows you to change your look easily without having to change expensive pieces of furniture."
